Requirements for Nurse Licensure in Canada: To practice as a registered nurse in Canada, a nurse must be registered with the Registered Nurses Association of a specific province. To be eligible for licensure in Canada, you must meet the following minimum requirements:
1. IELTS Exam: No more than 2 years since date of the exam: Results: minimum 7 speaking and 6.5 overall in all provinces except the following:
• Ontario: 6.5 in all areas and 7-speaking, 6.5-overall
• British Columbia: 6.0 in all areas and 7-speaking, 6.5-overall
If you completed your nursing education in English and/or you are currently registered and have practiced in some countries, you may be exempt from the IELTS requirement.
2. Acute Care experience: 2 years minimum experience in your current specialty
3. Education: BSN only is acceptable for application for licensure into Ontario. Diploma is accepted in all other Provinces.
